 HUMOUR:The shared absurdity.

Sometimes very little, insignificant things such as a smile, a hug or a kind word can make us very happy. Positive feelings and laughing are considered the best therapy to be healthy and live long, so...Why don´t we try to improve our lives by sharing good moments and having a good laugh?

This is what Charlie Todd and his group  "Ïmprov Everywhere¨" do. They create hilarious, joyful, absurd scenes in public places.

Watch the talk and answer  the following questions:

1-What projects does Todd show us?

2-What´s the best in your opinion?

3-Do you know any other groups in Spain or anywhere in the world doing things like this?
   Tell us.

4-Would you like to participate in one of these groups? Why?

A new Assistant!!!

On Friday 5th, our teacher, Manuela, intruduced our second assistant called Marissa. When Briana, the first assistent, came to the class we had to do an interview about her. And now we have to do the same with Marissa. Here it starts:

She comes from Boston, in Massachusetts (in the east side of the USA). She has done this long travel to stay in Madrid and to go to our school to help us with the English language.
She also said that when she was in Boston, she was wearing a big coat because the weather was very cold there; and when she arrived to Madrid she took ouet her coat and put on only a T-shirt and shorts. The weather is very different.

Marissa has got a brother called Jared who is 29 years old. Jared is studying law because his father, Luis, is now a lawyer.
Her mother, called Lydia, works in a school with disabled children.

She loves Spain, for that reason, it is the second time that she travels to Spain to work in a school. When she was 6 years old she travelled with her family to our country for the first time. She also came to Spain to study marketing at Barcelona University.
                                                       Barcelona

One of her Hobbies is to listen to music. She likes Jazz and electronic misic and she also likes going to gigs and painting exhibition, for that, she enjoys going to museums.

In her free time she goes to the beach. She loves travelling and she has visited 70  countries.

She also likes Spanish culture like  Manchego cheese. It is delicious, isn´t it?
I hope that she will enjoy staying with us because next year she can go back.

:-) $-) %-) ;-) =-) B-) 8-)

Citizien of the world

This year she is Briana, not Brian, but Briana, so pronounce it the right way please.

It's always nice to hear about the background of an English assistant: their hobbies, career, family... but hers, hers is like and adventure story

Map of Asia
TAIWAN, very close to CHI

Her grandparents were born in the Chinese city which is famous because Marco Polo said that it was another Venice: Suzhou. But disagreement with China's communist regime made her nationalist grandparents move to a close country, Taiwan. Both Briana's parents were born in the democratic country of Taiwan, but after finishing school there, they moved to Ohio, USA, where Briana was born.

OHIO

Situated in the northwest of the USA, the state of Ohio is cold, but famous due to its football team -one of the best in the USA-  and its outstanding characters, such as Steven Spielberg and Sarah Jessica Parker.Ohio's got the highest roallercoaster in the USA, though she hasn´t tried and I wouldn´t do it either. But among all the great things Ohio has, one of them is the biggest university of the states, Ohio State, the one which she attended for four years because she studied graphic arts and she has designed several logos, works for iPads... It's useful for marketing and a fantastic way to use her creativity too.She has also worked for Disney!

She has been studying at several universities abroad such as the University of Salamanca and has studied at a German university too due to a German Programm she took part in. She's also done several activities which gave her experience. She's taught English in China and worked at a sports agency because she loves soccer and working there, she met famous players. She plays as a right wing and she's a fan of the Spanish team, Real Madrid, but I'd like to show her that there are more teams, such as mine, Atlético de Madrid.

She moved to the state of California about a year ago. Briana lived in San Juan Capistrano in California. 'California's famous because of its National Parks and the Golden Gate and it is similar to Spain, mainly because of the weather', she says. Briana speaks English, Chinese and a bit of German too but I suppose we'd have taught her a bit of Spanish when she leaves. The Fullbright scholarship she got due to her high GPA allowed her to come to Spain, which shows that she's a hardworking person and I'd like her to contagiate that spirit to us so that in the future we could be like her.

I'm really happy with the assistants and what they teach us, it is very useful. What I like the most about Briana is the mixture of Asian-American culture she has and that she's been able to travel a lot. Travelling is a way of finding new paths, learning, opening your mind, meeting new people, sharing points of view... Definitely, I find this course with Briana as a way to expand my knowledge, to learn and to enjoy while I'm doing it.

Year 2012/13                                                                      4th.ESO

NEW SSISTANT, BRIANA

When our new assistant, Briana, entered in our class something told me she was an international personality and I'll have to admit that my intuition didn't fail me...

Briana's origins come from the Far East, from a city known as the Chinese Venice( Suzhou), which was discovered by Marco Polo in the mid 14th century.

As soon as  the communist political ideology was set up as new type of government in China her grandparents moved to the island of Taiwan, where most Chinese nationalists escaped.

Briana's parents emigrated from Taiwan to the USA. They settled in the state of Ohio where she was born. Briana states that it's a unique experience to live both cultures, the Chinese and the American. She encourages us to visit the USA, which she describes as a country where all cultures are invited to live together.

As we could understand Briana is a really hard working person. She got a scholarship for her studies at Ohio's State University.

She has always been a creative girl. She knew she wanted to study something related with arts and design, but she wanted it to be useful for society. In the end she decided to study graphic design for four years.

After her studies, she directly went to work as a graphic designer for Disney.

As soon as she finished in Disney, she went travelling aroud the globe Some of the places she has visited are: Germany, where she passed some courses; Spain, where she continued her studies at Salamanca's University...

Last year she moved to California. What she likes the most in this state is the magnificent nature , full of wondeful natural parks with the amazing sequoia trees and the stunning water falls.

By the way, Briana is also a great soccer player. In fact, she plays as back-right defender in her Californian female soccer team. She is so much keen on sports that she entered in the Sport Agency where she met some famous footballers. Besides soccer, she's also keen on basketball. Her favourite team is the Lakers.

With regard to arts, she loves impressionists such as Monet, who is her favourite French painter.

To conclude I'd like to say Briana has impressed me with her interesting personality full of experiences and I'm looking forward to finding more about here...
