The images I show you below, belong to a couple of students  in the second year ESO bilingual program.

"Gulliver´s travels" is the book we are reading this term and one of the students prepared an illustration for it.

Hallowland is fantastic comic that could be read as an extra chapter in the book.

After reading your classmates comments, could you tell me what do these images refer to ? Do you recognise any of the street artists?

STREET ART
Bahia Shebab is a Lebanese-Egyptian artist and art historian who applies her studies to modern-day issues. She is working on projects which are relevant to cultural heritage and most recently she has taken her art to the streets of Cairo, stenciling images in support of her country´s revolution.

Bahia Shebab uses her art to fight against an unfair society
1- Mention 3 things she wants to say "No" to.

2- What is the poem  she mentions at the end fo her talk? Who wrote it?
     What does it mean?

Now, watch this othe video by the British gaffitti artist Banksi. He and a group of collaborators are painting on the segregation wall which separates Israel from Palestine.

3-What do Banksi and Bahia Shebab have in common? What ideas do they defend and want to spread?

4-Do you know any other artists like them? Who are they?

Marissa is our new English assitant. She is from the United States of America and she was born in Boston located in Massachusetts, a state which belongs to the north east cost of America. She decribes her city as a very cold and icy place.

Regarding to Marissa's family, she has an older brother, Jared who is a lawyer as his father, Louis. Lydia, her mother is retired. However, she used to work in a special school with children with special needs.

Although both Marissa and her brother were born in America, they are very influenced by the European culture as their father is Italian and their mother in Greek. And that's the reason why Marissa has been into so many European countries.

She studied in the Fordham University in NYC, a catholic university where she studied two different majors: communication and media and history. She graduated two springs ago. And her idea is to do a master in Holland next year as she is looking forward to visiting this country.
She is very proud of her hometown as it has some important universities such as Harward University. Boston also has a very important basket team, the Boston's celtics, Marissa's favourite team.

She loves art and museums. However, her biggest passion is travelling and the truth is that she's been to a lot of different countries in Europe and South America and she's already plannig new distinies, some of them in Asia someday. She  really likes the beach and the sun, too. The sea is one of the things she misses the most as there in Boston she lived at 5 minutes from the shore.

She loves going to concerts and she is into all kinds of music with the exception of heavy metal and American country music, which she thinks are awful.

Marissa was born in Boston, Massachusetts. Situated in the north east of the United States of America. She is the fourth member of her family. Her father, Louis, and her brother, Jared, work as lawyers. On the other side, her mother Lydia is now retired. She used to work as teacher for children with some kind of difficulties or problems. Although Marissa´s father is Italian and her mother is Greek, she has always lived in the U.S.A.

Marissa studied in New York in the Fordham private university, where she studied communication and history, and got graduated two years ago. She recommended us not to study in the U.S.A, especially in a private university. She argued that they have very expensive taxes. Marissa needed to pay almost 50.000 dollars to enter this university.

This is her second year here in Spain. She has already been in Barcelona for a communication course, and as assistant in a school in Las Rozas. Marissa likes Europe a lot. She said that she would like to obtain the master in Holland and that probably she would establish herself in this continent. Now she is living in Malasaña, Madrid.

Marissa´s hobbies are: listening to music, sailing and traveling. She also loves art.
Her favorite music styles are rock, pop and heavy metal. She detests country music. Marissa commented us that she has been to many concerts as well as she has worked for the music industry.
Marissa´s family has a boat. When she lived in Boston, she and her family used to go sailing very frequently. This is because Boston is much closer to the sea, not like Madrid.

Marissa has been in many countries all over the world. She has visited South America as well as Europe. And now, she is looking forward to going to Asia.
