Sebastião Salgado's amazing exhibition: "Genesis" at Caixa Forum

Last 20th. April, we went to a photography exhibition of a Brazilian photographer called Sebastiao Salgado.

About the exhibition:
  • In this incredible exhibition there were lots of pictures about unspoiled nature such as huge deserts, polar regions, glaciers, mountains, islands... They also show how humans live in some parts of Africa, Indonesia, the North Pole... in which, although they don't have as many things as we have, they are many times happier than us.
  • All of the pictures  are in black and white because Salgado thought that way they would convey us more feelings.
  • The 250 photographs in the exhibit were taken by Salgado during 8 years of voyages to virgin parts of the world.
Photographs:
Here there are some pictures you can still see.

Remember that  we have the future of the planet in our hands.

  1. I am very glad we could visit the exhibition with the school. There is no doubt Sebastiao Salgado is one of the best contemporary photographers and his work is not only a legacy for the future but also a warning for us at the present moment. Let´s preserve our world. Platnet earth is precious and we should be aware ot it.!

  2. This exhibition was fantastic. What I liked the most was not its pictures, which were beautiful and amazing. Instead, it was the habit that Sebastião had of spending time with the different indigenous people, learning their customs and their culture. For instance, when he was taking photos of the “Nenets” (a civilization that lives in the North Pole), he learnt to live as they do, moving constantly, drinking the blood of the reindeers and dressing the “chum” (a type of coat made of the skin of reindeers). Obviously, at first, Salgado found difficult to do these things, as it would happen to most of you if you went there, but later, he understood it was necessary only and exclusively to survive.
Thanks to this exhibition, I also learnt new things. For example, that there is a festival celebrated in the Mount Hagen and in Paya that is called the festival of Sing-sing. I also learnt that we have to preserve that 46% of unspoiled nature and to transform the rest of the planet, as Lélia and Sebastião did in their family farm.

  3. I think that it was a very interesting exhibition. I liked to much how he represented in the pictures the different ways in which the people live and how different are from us. It is amazing the work and the effort that Sebastiao Salgado has done for making this pictures and the difficult situations in which he lived with them.

It was a brilliant exhibition. We saw a lot of pictures of how different people lived in different parts of the world. I loved the contrast of black and white of the pictures. I think what Sebastiao Salgado wants to say is that we have to take care of the plant and be conscious about the damage we are doing to it.
