3-What do Banski and Bahia Shebab have in common? What ideas do they defend and want to spread?

They both share their ideas in art, this case graffiti. They want to spread the ideas of freedom and peace.

4-Do you know any other artists like them? Who are they?

The only one I've heard of is T-KID, who started in the 70' in New York, writting "King 13" in his graffitis. He was part of the Bronx Enchanters.

  2. 1- Bahia mentioned the following NOs:

    . NO to military rule
. No to a new terror, which means that she doesn't accept the restoraton of a new dictatorship after the surrender Mubarak.
.NO to violence towards women. To support this idea she drew a blue bra in a graffiti due to the scene of a tortured women of the demonstrations who wore one.

2- Bahia mentioned a poem of Neruda which states that "You can crush the flowers but you can't defeat spring".With this statement it's explained that demonstrators could have been bit in the Egyptian Spring but the new social ideology which had spread would prevail.

3- Both of them had spoken up the unjust threats which Arabic society has been facing. In the one had Bahia talks about the uprisings in which took place in Cairo city and horrific violence demonstrators had suffered.
In the other hand Banski expresses through street art the invasion Palestine is facing from Israel.

4- It has been a new for me that people in such a restricted society had been so brave to tell about these horrible threats. Alas I don't know any other street artists.

  3. 1- Bahia Shebab talked about several "no". Three of them are:
    - No to violence.
    - No to killing.
    - No to burning books.

2- The poem she talks about was written by Neruda. It says "You can crush the flower but yo can't defeat the spring".
I think this is a message that encaurages people to fight for their thoughts. It is a really good poem in my opinion.

3- I think that Banski and Bahia Shebab want to make countries free. They don't want violence. They want people to be treted in a correct way and they want them to have the right of speeking freely.
They have also in common the atraction they feel for painting the walls of the street with real situations and they both talked about real problems in society.

4- I don't really know any artist of these caracteristics, but surfing the net I found two:
    - John Fekner who has painted walls of many countries such as Germany and his own city New York.
    - Shepard Fairey who's famous because of his stickers with the face of André el gigante.

  4. 1-Bahia Shebab talked about some NO like for example:
    - NO to violence.
    - NO to dictatorship goverment.
    - NO to kill people.

2-She talks about a poem of Pablo Neruda that says "You can crush the flower but yo can't defeat the spring". I think that with this she tries to say that they can kill all the egyptians they can but the ideology of retiring the dictatorship would never dissapear.

3- I think that Banski and Bahia have in common that they don´t want the people being captured inside their country, they want freedom of speech and freedom of everything for eveybody and they express this ideas mainly by graffity.

4-I don´t know any street artist but in the internet I found:
-Morley who had painted all around Iowa that was his native city to Los ANgeles.

  5. 1-Bahia Shebab said no to a lot of things, but some of them are:
    -No to burning books
    -No to military rule
    -No to blinding heroes

2-The poem said "you can crush the flowers but you can´t delay spring", Bahia found this poem in Tahrir´s hospital, in Cairo. The poem was written by Pablo Neruda.I think that this poem means that although you can repress some people, you can´t stop the people of a hole country if they think the same

3-They have in common that they wanted to defend the people of the country, because they have the power. They wanted to spread peace around this countries although some people don´t like it, they defend that the people are who have to decide of what they wanted to govern them.

4- I don´t know of more people like Banski.

  6. FIRST VIDEO.
1- Mention 3 things she wants to say "No" to.
She decides to say "No" to:
    -A military rule.
    -Violence.
    -To killing and burning books.
2- What is the poem she mentions at the end for her talk? Who wrote it? What does it mean?
She found a poem which was written by Pablo Neruda. It says: "You can crush the flowers but you can't delay the spring". It means that although you are able to kill all the people, you cannot change the ideologies they have and so, everybody is going to express the same ideas even though they are going to be killed or tortured or anything.

    SECOND VIDEO.
3-What do Banski and Bahia Shebab have in common? What ideas do they defend and want to spread?
I think that both of them want a better world by making the people see that everything what is happening is not fair and that, although some people try to repress all their ideologies, there will be no person who is able to make you think about something you don't believe in. They want freedom and liberty for all the people. Each of them express this by using different ways: Banski with graffities and Bahia with speeches. I think they both think more or less the same about the world: it could be better.
4-Do you know any other artists like them? Who are they?
I don't know the name but the other day, a man who does graffities against politics appear on TV, but I've forgotten the name.

  7. 1. Mention 3 things she wanted to say "NO" to.

In the video, Bahia Shebad said different things she wanted to say no to. But I think that the more important ones are:
-no to a military rule or a new terror, which means that she doesn´t want another dictatorship after Mubarak.
-no to violence, which have killed a lots of people during the revolution.
-no to burning books which damage the general culture of the society.

2.What is the poem she mentions at the end for her talk? Who wrote it? What does it mean?

The poem she mentions at the end of the speech is one written by Pablo Neruda and it says:
"You can crush the flowers, but you can't delay the spring".
The meaning of this poem or the idea that it transmits is that although the goverment or other forces are looking for the end of the revolution by killing people that only have a diferent point of view, the ideas or the thoughts that have been spreading through the population will never disappear of their minds.

3.What do Banski and Bahia Shebab have in common? What ideas do they defend and want to spread?

Both of them express their ideologies or points of view through the art. Banski use graffittis to led the people know what he thinks while Bahia Shebad use the speeches just for the same porpose. They both deffend more or less the same. They are convince and they also wanted to convince the people that the world should and could be better than it is.

4-Do you know any other artists like them? Who are they?

I´m not really keen on street artists but i´ve heard of one called Blu. Blu is an italian artist that has been doing stuff on the streets for over a decade. His paintings are critical to society and the system. Embodies many of the current problems in politics, economy or just the everyday life.

  8. 1.
    -no to military rule

    -no to violence

    -no to blinding heroes

2.the poem (quote) is called you can cut flowers but tou can´t delay spring is made by Pablo Neruda.
It is alluding to the Arab Spring. It says that there is people that are against ideologies, orenything

taht supress people like a dictator, and they can be easily get out of the road( for example someone

that is against a dictator and he gets killed) but when the problem grows and all people is against

that ideas change is needed for bringing back normallity (it is like History, it is always changing

because it is needed, and change can´t be stopped).

    3.

Both of them are graffitty artists, they both express their ideas by graffitti, making people

understand that not all the world it´s is fair and justice. They both are street artists but shehan

    prefers talking in speeches.

    4. I know some graffitters, but in their graffittis they don´t usually transmit any message, they are only painters.

  9. 1.Not to military rule, not killing people specially those ones who are religious, and not to violence.

2.The poem was from Pablo Neruda. It said that: "You can crush the flower but you can't defeat the spring" I think it means that people are not going to stop showing their feelings, altouhg for doing that, they will be killed.

3.They don’t want violence, they promote peace. They want to spread the freedom of speech, a freedom that allows each person to show the rest of the world their own feelings, and their own thoughts.

4.I haven’t heard about this kind of art before. Because the most common graffiti are the ones who are just scrawled paintings, and these ones promotes many freedom feelings. So I don’t know any artists like them.

  10. BAHIA SHEBAB VIDEO

1.Mention 3 things she wants to say "No" to.

    Bahia Shebab wants to say:

    - NO to stripping ( her graffiti of the blue bra perfectly reflects her attitude towards this disrespectful and inadequate behaviour, and she does not like it because of the shame which is to see that that occurs in the streets).

-NO to burning books (a lot of culture is lost this way, and, unfortunateli it was lost).

-NO to blinding heroes ( Ahmed Harara lost his right eye-January 28th 2011, and his left eye-November 19, 2011).

2-What is the poem she mentions at the end for her talk?Who wrote it? What does it mean?

The poem which she mentions at the end of her talk was written by the Chilean poet, Pablo Neruda."You can crush the flowers but you can't delay spring".This poem means that things can try to be avoided, by crushing the flower, a sing of spring( such as crushing the revolts in the Lebanon), but in the end spring will come, because it is something natural which cannot be avoided and always happens. Revolts can be crushed, but revolution and changes will always occur.

    BANKSY VIDEO

3-What do Bansky and Bahia Shebab have in common? What ideas do they defend and want to spread?

What they have in common is that they are both artists who understand what happens around the world, whose point of view helps the rest of society to realize which happens around them. They both have very strong oppions and they express them through graffiti, socio-political graffitis which reach people( its teh way they bith protest and revolt). They defend ideas which are against segregation. Kanksy says the wall is an " open prison " which is also a gallery to show free speeches and art, against the political-repressing situation. They both spread the thoughts , not just of themselves but of thousands of people who suffer represions and hard violence when they go on demonstration. They both spread their horror towards the situation which is happening by drawing graffitis, very significative graffitis, against the goverment measures taken to make the people aware of the situation and to protest.

4-Do you know any other artists like them? Who are they?

I do know about other graffiti about protests and I know people who draw them, but I do not know much about the artists or whether they drew graffitis protesting or not. However, I have read a really interesting article about graffitis on the roads of the city of Yekaterinburg, Russia, drawn as a protes by several artists. They as well as the people wanted the potholes to be repaired so they had the idea of painting caricatures of municipal and regional leaders. They were made in such way that the road potholes became part of the graffiti, concretely , the mouth of the leaders was the pothole. This act had a great and inmediate effect on the leaders, who of course cleaned their faces of the road the next day, thereby tell had to repair the potholes too, so it was what they done. It was an effective act, because due to the graffitis, the potholes were repaired.I think the names of the artists who did this are:Alexander Yakob ,Yevgeniy Kuyvashev and Porunov.

-They have in common that they share the same ideas of freedom and equalty and they expressed themselves by art:
    Banski->graffiti
    Bahia Shebap->speeches and graffitis

    she sais no to:
+ to the violence; a man was tortured, and another lost his two eyes, on in 28 of january and the other one on the 15 of november.
+to killing people; a man with different ideas was shot on december the 16 in a demostration.
+to burning books; there were many books that were burned on december the 17.
+ to the rock blocks that were set in Cairo to protect the ministry from the protestants.

    2.
The poem was writen by Pablo Neruda.
`` You can crush the flowers, but you can not defeat the spring´´
In my opinion, this poem means that the authority can crush the demostrations or the protestants, but the ideology they have will perserve. I think this poem wants to give hope to the protesants to continue fighting.

    3.
In my opinion, what they have in common is that both of them want to free the country and they want that each cityzen has the liberty of expression, but mainly, what they have in common is that both of them try to express it by painting, by grafities.

    4.
I have heard of ``Know Hope´´, who is an artist who has built some kind of cartoons in different places to express his disagreement aginst society. one of those cartoons is in the wall which was set in Palestine.
This is the photo of his cartoon:

1- Mention 3 things she wants to say "No" to.
1)No to military rule. That means that she is against another dictatorship after the one lived with Mubarak.
    2)No to violence towards women.
3)No to burning books. Because for example in the 17th of December a lot of culture was lost with that act.

2- What is the poem she mentions at the end fo her talk? Who wrote it? What does it mean?

At the end of her talk she mentions a poem from Neruda which explains very good the ideas she is defending. There is a quote 'You can crush the flowers but you can't delay the spring' which means that although you use the violence to crush all the revolts thet people are doing against your power, maybe you will be able to hurt them or even to stop people revolting for a while but you won't be able to change their ideologies.

    Second video
3-What do Banski and Bahia Shebab have in common? What ideas do they defend and want to spread?

What they have in common is that both of them want to change the current situation the world is living, all the unfair treatments and the lack of freedom and equality which there are in some places. They support the idea that nobody can force you to change your mind. And Bahia shows these ideas through her speeches while Banski shows them through his art, his graffitis.

4-Do you know any other artists like them? Who are they?

The truth is that I am not into those things. However,
although they are not famous, some normal people you see everyday are expressing their feelings and thoughs about politics and other issues through graffiti as well as other kinds of street art because as most of the citizens they are not glad with the current situation we are living.
