  4. A potato can change everything in a country. One proof of this is The Great Famine
Personally, I find amazing the massive move of Irish peasant looking new lands as well as the importance of potato in their life.
It is also remarkable the decision that Irish people did: they went to another country leaving back their country, their houses and sometimes their family (in the migrating ships some families divided and they never saw theirselves again). The journey to America was very long (it lasted for months) and it was horrible, too- there wasn´t a lot of food, there were a lot of people in the same ship (almost everybody strangers) and a lot of illnesses killed a lot of people. Their arrival to America wasn´t the best- they weren´t welcome because most of them were sick and they didn´t have home or lands. All this suffering is represented in several bronze statues in Dublin
Conclusion: Irish peasants suffered a lot because of this famile, but nevertheless, they improved: Irish got a territories in America and could survive.

I agree with Alberto in what he said a potatoe can change our lifes for example the Great Famine.
I think in the value of the Irish people that moved to another country leaving their country, their houses and sometimes their families.
Sometimes when this people migrated to other countries looking for a better live in small ships dividing their family they never see the other part of his/her family in the rest of their lives and that is very sad
Conclusion: although they were suffered alot becouse of the Great Famine they improved, they now have more territories and cuold survive

  13. The potato blight smelt badly and it was not posible to eat them. This food represents the scarce of food they had. Families evisted from their houses because there was no food, money or home. The most inmediate solutions was to emigrate to America or Canada on ships. They had to cross the Atlantic Ocean, and there was stormy weather.

The ships were very unconfortable;they were crowded and disease spread. Many passangers died during the journey. They journey could take months. The Irish were not always welcomed to the new land because they wre homeless and could spread disease. In Dublín, there still being statues of people who suffer because of the famine. They are a reminder of the people that died in the journey and they represent the suffering they had.

  14. The poor people lived in very bad conditions in that time. It get even worse when the potato blight appeared. It carried with it terrible consequences.
It's incredible the number of people that died in that famine.
Everybody who could took a ship to America or Canada had possibilities to start a new life. They could leave the coutry easily because they didn't have money or goods. In the other hand, it was very difficult leave your family there with no food. Although sometimes all the family could emigrate togehter thinking about a better future... Most of them died because of the bad conditions of the trip. There wasn't enough food or water, and the diseases were other problems. They suffered there for months until arrive to their destination.
Not always their dreams became true. Sometimes they couldn't find job because they were ill or homeless.
In honour of the people that suffered in that famine, there are statues in Dublin representing all the victims.
The next time you're going to eat remember how lucky you are of having food everyday.

Personally, I think that the great famine was a very hard situation for poor Irish people. They were expelled from their own houses and they were separated from their relatives. Then, they had to emigrate to another country in a boat in very bad conditions (it didn't have enough food and illnes spread very fast) where many people died. Besides that, when they arrived to America they were not wellcomed because they were homeless.
From my point of view, it was a laborious work for all that inmigrants who lost their family. I wouldn't be able to be so strong emotionally to be separated from my family.
So, as they did in Dublin remembering these poor Irish people with statues, I would remember (and I spect you too) them, speccially in my difficult situations

  16. Incredible. When I was young I threw the food that I don`t liked to the bin. Its so sad that the poor people died of hunger or by eating potatoes; they were very importat, that were toxic. Due to this , they needed to travel to America to get food and even a better job. But this became a risk for them because they needed to travel in coffine ships. Poor people that travelled in that ships, died of natural causes or because they had to sopport stormy weathers. Their journey took months to complete the sailig! The people that survived, represented a new life in America. Irish people were not welcomed there because they were poor and they didn`t have home and no money. Nowadays we can see statues representing the Irish people that travelled to America to start a new life. Try to eat all food that your parents can give you, you see all those people that died of starving. Try to put a little effort on the things that you do, studies, house work, what ever.
