Isaac Asimov, one of the most important contemporary scientists and also sci-fi writer has written a short story about this and it has been the basis for this amazing film directed in 1999 starring Robin Williams. It is brilliantly done and I hope you enjoy it.
This is a film which I enjoy but it is sad too. Andrew, The BICENTENNIAL MAN, is the only robot who is different form the rest of robots. Andrew learns new things from people and tries to do things nicely. He eventually becomes a human as he covers the metal of its body to make it look like humans' skin and gets several "organs" (which are actually machines) and more human characteristics. Nevertheless, while he lives, the people who he "loves" leave him but he stills alive. That is one of the points of the film, to show that we would not like to live forever because we'd end up living alone, carrying the burden of loosing relatives and friends. However he is constantly fighting to became a real human being.
ResponderEliminarI like how Andrew insists during the film and his relationship with Portia and Damita and the rest. One of my favourite scenes in the film is when the dog arrives to Andrew's house and he opens the door to the dog and adopts the dog as his pet, eventhough he eats no food and had no food to feed the dog.
I recommend watching this film and also A.I. (Artificial Intelligence). Both are examples of robots who can have strong feelings( A.I. is very sad , in my opinion).
Finally, I think robots are not going to have feelings in a future. If humans create those robots, somebody will think that those robots are better than us. Feelings are very complex and if a robot who can love, hate, be sensitive to words and have a personality, it will occur in a future which is far far away.
